The Jewish God

Oneness

The monotheistic creed of Judaism is stated:

  • in the Law:

Hear O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord is one.[1]

  • in the Prophets:

“You are my witnesses,” declares the Lord, “and my servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me no god was formed, nor will there be one after Me. I, even I, am the Lord, and apart from Me there is no Saviour.[2]

“This is what the Lord says, Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty: I am the first and I am the last; apart from Me there is no God.”[3]

Declare what is to be, present it, let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the Lord? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous God and a Saviour; there is none but Me.[4]
