Opening sermon

Praise is to Allah [swt], we praise Him, and we seek His help. We seek refuge with Allah from the evil of our own souls and our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever is led astray no one can guide. I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah alone with no partner or associate and that Muhammad [saws] is His slave and His Messenger. To proceed:[1]

Who am I?

Surah Al-'Imran Chapter 3 Verse 18

Allah [swt] bears witness that none has the right to be worshipped but He and the angels and those having knowledge [also give this witness]; [He always] maintains His creation in Justice. None has the right to be worshipped but He, the All-Mighty, the All-Wise.[2]

I am a Muslim.

I bear witness that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah [swt].

How do I worship Allah [swt]?

Surah An-Nisa' Chapter 4 Verse 59

O you who believe! Obey Allah [swt] and obey the Messenger [saws] and those of you who are in authority. [And] if you differ in anything amongst yourselves refer it to Allah and His Messenger if you believe in Allah and in the Last Day. That is better and more suitable for final determination.[3]

Surah Al-'Imran Chapter 3 Verse 132

And obey Allah [swt] and His Messenger [saws] that you may obtain mercy.[4]

Surah Al-Anfal Chapter 8 Verse 24

O you who believe! Answer Allah [swt] and [His] Messenger [saws] when he calls you to that which will give you life and know that Allah [swt] comes in between a person and his heart. And verily to Him you shall [all] be gathered.[5]

I worship Allah [swt] by obeying Him and His Messenger [saws].

How do I obey Allah [swt] and His Messenger [saws]?

Surah At-Taubah Chapter 9 Verse 122

And it is not [proper] for the believers to go out to fight all together. Of every troop of them, a party only should go forth that they [who are left behind] may get instructions in religion and that they may warn their people when they return to them so that they may beware [of evil].[6]

I obey Allah [swt] and His Messenger [saw] by seeking knowledge of my religion, Islam in order that I may warn other believers.

What should I know?

Surah Al-Hashr Chapter 59 Verse 7

What Allah [swt] gave as booty to His Messenger from the people of the townships – it is for Allah His Messenger [saws] the kindred the orphans the poor and the wayfarer in order that it may not become a fortune used by the rich among you. And whatsoever the Messenger gives you take it, and whatsoever he forbids you abstain [from it]. And fear Allah; verily Allah is Severe in punishment.[7]

I seek the knowledge conveyed by the Messenger of Allah [saws] in the Qur’an and Sunnah in order that I may take whatever has been enjoined on believers and may avoid whatever has been forbidden.

How should I know?

Surah Al-Qasas Chapter 28 Verses 79-80

So he went forth before his people in his pomp. Those who were desirous of the life of the world said, “Ah, would that we had the like of what Qarun [Korah] has been given! Verily he is the owner of a great fortune.”

But those who had been given [religious] knowledge said, “Woe to you! The Reward of Allah [swt] is better for those who believe and do righteous good deeds, and this none shall attain except those who are patient in following the truth.”[8]

I ask Allah [swt] to remove from me the desire of the life of this world in order that I may become patient in following the truth and receive His Reward.

Why should I know?

Surah Al-Mujadilah Chapter 58 Verse 11

O you who believe! When you are told to make room in the assemblies, make room. Allah [swt] will give you [ample] room [from His Mercy]. And when you are told to rise up, rise up. Allah will exalt in degree those of you who believe and those who have been granted knowledge. And Allah is Well-Acquainted with what you do.[9]

I seek the Reward of a higher rank in Paradise for those believers who have been granted knowledge.

So why the website?

It is clear, therefore, I am not important, but my purpose, intentions and actions are.

I declare then:

  • that I seek to acquire knowledge of religious matters in order that I may avoid what Allah [swt] has forbidden and do what He has commanded to the best of my ability;
  • that having acquired this knowledge I teach it to others that they likewise may avoid what Allah [swt] has forbidden and do what He has commanded to the best of their ability;
  • that I seek to acquire knowledge only for the Pleasure of Allah [swt], not to show off to the scholars, nor to dispute with foolish people nor to guarantee me a place at selected gatherings;
  • that, in all this, I seek the help of Allah [swt].

The purpose of this website is, therefore, to disseminate the knowledge of the Qur’an and Sunnah to the world that others may avoid what Allah [swt] has forbidden and do what He has commanded to the best of their ability.
