Using siwak<\/i> is recommended, not obligatory<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cSiwak<\/i> is a means of purification for the mouth and is pleasing to the Lord.\u201d[1]<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cWere it not for the fact that I did not wish to cause hardship to the believers I would have commanded them to delay the \u2018isha\u2019<\/i> prayer and to use the siwak<\/i> for every prayer.\u201d[2]<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cI have indeed urged you with regard to the siwak<\/i>.\u201d[3]<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

To use siwak<\/i> before prayer<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cWhenever the Messenger of Allah [saws] got up for prayer at night to pray the optional night prayer, he would clean his mouth with the tooth stick.\u201d[4]<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

To use siwak<\/i> after entering house<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI asked, \u2018Aishah [ra], \u2018With what did the Prophet [saws] start when he entered his house?\u2019 She said, \u2018With the siwak<\/i>.\u2019\u201d[5]<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

To use siwak<\/i> on the tongue<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI entered upon the Prophet [saws] while he was using the siwak<\/i> upon the tip of his tongue and he was saying, \u2018Eh, Eh\u2019, making a gagging sound.\u201d[6]<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

To clean the siwak<\/i> after use<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cThe Prophet of Allah [saws] would clean his teeth with the siwak<\/i> then he would give me the siwak<\/i> in order to wash it. So I would first use it myself then wash it and return it to him.\u201d[7]<\/a><\/p>\n

\n

To share the siwak<\/i>, with the elder before the younger<\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

\u201cI dreamt that I was cleaning my teeth with a siwak<\/i> and two persons came to me. One of them was older than the other, and I gave the siwak<\/i> to the younger. I was told that I should give it to the older and so I did.\u201d[8]<\/a><\/p>\n
